"Sangria and Empanda" Reception following the screening

The most popular Argentinian film in history stems from the wildly creative mind of writer/director Damian Szifron, whose previous credits included a hit TV show and whose next project is reportedly with Mark Wahlberg.  When this anthology film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015 it received a 10-minute standing ovation. Nominated for a best foreign film Oscar after sweeping the Argentine  Oscars, “Wild Tales” quickly became a popular sensational and critic’s darling. In fact, the dazzling debut left an imprint on the culture. The New York Times reported it became "a genuine social phenomenon" and some screen characters gained a cult status in Argentina. The audacious Jewish filmmaker (sit tight for the wedding finale) splices Quentin Tarantino’s dazzling cinematic chutzpah with the Coen Brothers’ biting black comedy. But these high-flying tales of retribution are definitely not just for cineastes!

“Tales of apocalyptic revenge. The year's most fearlessly funny film." - Richard Corliss, Time

“Hilarious! Each carefully wrought jewel of story is more delicious and outrageous and hilarious than the last." – Anne Thompson, Indiewire

“Smart, tart, beautifully performed mini-epics of grievance escalating to a kind of sanctified madness." - Mary Corliss, Time
