Son of Spock, aka Adam Nimoy, grew up in the Star Trek orbit, and followed his father into the entertainment universe. Several years ago, with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek original series approaching at warp speed, Adam suggested filming a biography both about his father and the iconic Mr. Spock - who was inseparable from the actor. (IMBd’s biography for Spock is twice as long as Nimoy’s.) The timing was in the stars, as Nimoy died in February 2015 at the age of 83, fortuitously following the completion of the filming. We can now fondly recall Spock’s brilliant moments of scientific acumen on the bridge, his Houdini-like mind melds, the Vulcan (Jewish?) hyper-rationality, his maddening adherence to logic, and the oddly familiar split-fingered sign of the Kohan attached to the Vulcan admonition, “Live long and prosper!” Nimoy drew on his Jewish heritage creating the iconic legend, as the film reveals, and grew into his Judaism with age. Of the two men, it’s hard to say which is more interesting.
