Emotions burst onto the radiant face of Moran Rosenblatt like wind and storms sweeping across the starkly beautiful Negev desert where the story takes place. Rosenblatt  (Apples from the Dessert, BJFF 2016) won the Israeli Academy Award for her delicate performance as a mildly brain-injured young woman who sees life through rose colored glasses. We admire and feel great sympathy for her at the same time. So too, we react with many mixed emotions to this tenderly told story of a differently abled child-woman facing the realities of a harsh world. The film is both sad and inspiring, bittersweet yet uplifting. Above all, it is realistic, and resists Hollywood fairy tale inclinations. By dealing honestly with such challenges as social alienation and stigmatization, director Nitzan Gilady arouses our compassion, and invites us to share his fundamental Tikkun Olam message. By fostering understanding, he suggests the world can become a better place for us all.
