Daily Camp Schedule

Camper Bunks (Groups)

Each camper is placed into a group for their two-week session called a ‘bunk’. These bunks are divided by age so we can ensure the programming is age-appropriate. If you are enrolled in a specialty camp, your child will be enrolled in a bunk with the campers who are also enrolled in that program.  When you apply for camp you can also request friends to be with your camper. We will do our best to accommodate all requests.

Our bunks are named after animals local to Colorado. Below you’ll find a list and which groups they belong to:

Kinder Crew - Mountain Goats & Foxes
Cherryvale Day Camp - Elk, Big Horn Sheep, & Bears
Milk and Honey Farm Camp - Eagles
Speciality Camps - Moose & Wolves

Special Days and Field Trips

Special Days
Every Thursday we have a special day at camp where we bring something fun and different for our campers. These activities range from performances including live animal shows, magicians, dinosaur shows and bubble artists to having bounce houses and carnival games. Campers will also get to have sprinkler and water games once a week. This is a big hit, especially on very hot days.

We start each week with camp all together with our Havdalah (prayer to separate the week from the weekend) program and end each week with our Shabbat (sabbath) Sing. During this time we sing Jewish and secular songs. It's also a time for our campers and staff to put on skits, dance, and tell stories. It’s one of our campers favorite camp rituals. On Fridays we also make Challah which the kids will take home to enjoy.

Pool Trips
Campers enrolled in our Cherryvale Day Camp program will go to Scott Carpenter Pool once a session. We take the RTD bus to and from the JCC to the pool. The campers love to get to experience our local transportation system.

At Scott Carpenter Pool, the campers will get to play only in the shallow play area and splash pad. Campers in the oldest age group will have an opportunity to take the swim test and if they pass will be able to access the rest of the pool areas. You also have the opportunity to opt out of the trip completely and we will have an alternative activities for your camper at camp that day.

Camper Support

We understand that, while camp is exciting, it may also be a new or different experience for your family to navigate. Cherryvale Day Camp strives to ensure that all staff, campers, and their families feel safe, nurtured, and accepted. Our Camper Care Specialists are here to help ensure we have inclusive behavioral practices while promoting campers’ well being and assisting individual camper needs. Our Camper Care Specialist works in close partnership with parents to create the most successful camp experience possible.

My child has never attended Cherryvale Day Camp before. How will you make them feel welcome?

Every summer we see lots of new faces joining us at Cherryvale Day Camp for the first time.  We've become very adept in bringing new friends into the community. Our staff is trained in developing cohesion with their bunks (groups), so they’re ready to build a dynamic where everyone is included. Bonding programs begin right away on the first morning of each session and the staff will continue to nurture camper friendships throughout the season.

Our Camper Care Specialist will connect with you before the session starts to answer any questions and to learn more about your child. We can arrange a tour of our camp before the sessions begins to help with your child’s transition into camp.  We’re here to support you and your child to be successful at camp.

What happens if my child is struggling at camp?

This happens -  adults aren't our best selves 100% of the time, and we don’t expect campers to be either. This is why we created a Camper Care Team. We work in close partnership with parents to share behavioral challenges and problem solve together. We are all on the same team, with the same goal: for your camper to have an amazing camp experience!

If my child needs extra support how can I make sure Cherryvale Day Camp will be a good fit?

In order to best assess whether a child is a good fit for our program, we ask families to participate in an intake process. While we seek to meet the needs of everyone and serve several families with disabilities, we cannot accommodate threatening or aggressive behaviors that compromise the safety of the camper or camp community. If your child has behavioral differences or specific needs, please contact Camp Director Julia Paeglis so that we can determine whether we have the accommodations to provide a healthy, happy camp experience for your child. Our hope is that by working together, we can ensure that your child has a great experience.

We are currently unable to provide one-on-one care for campers on site unless provided by you.

Cherryvale Staff

All of our camp staff are at least 18 years old and out of high school. We provide a week-long training in addition to several online training sessions that are required per Colorado State  Licensing. During the summer, counselors and staff participate in weekly training and daily staff meetings. We start to hire summer staff in January. If you know anyone who might be a good fit please direct them to www.boulderjcc.org/jobs. Counselors are assigned a bunk for each session. If your child is with us for multiple sessions throughout the summer, they may have different counselors each session. Counselors for each bunk will be announced the Wednesday before each session in our prep email.

What’s your counselor-to-camper ratio?
We have a ratio of at least 2 counselors per bunk and our bunks numbers range from 8 - 20 campers.
