Special Veteran's Day Screening - "Prosecuting Evil: The Extraordinary World of Ben Ferencz"
Directed by Barry Avrich, 2018, 83 minutes
Talkback with Professor Paul Shankman
Ben Ferencz is a national hero, the chief prosecutor for the US Army at the Nuremberg Trials, and a lawyer whose passion for justice for victims of atrocity crimes continues today. Now 98, the Romanian immigrant spent a lifetime advocating for restitution for Jewish victims of the Holocaust, and later fought for the establishment of the International Criminal Court. At 27 years old, the World War II veteran became lead prosecutor in what has been called the biggest murder trial in history. It was his first trial. All 22 Nazi officials tried for murdering over a million people were convicted. A tiny but tenacious man with a huge personality and an unexpectedly compelling life story, Ferencz is an immensely deserving film subject.
