Israel is many things to many people.  In this series of learning and discussions sessions, we will examine the vision versus the reality of three pressing subjects. Opinions and questions are welcome. Join us for one or all of the free facilitated discussion groups. We will meet in a private home and the address will be provided upon registration.

The Challenges of Democracy

Since its inception, Israel has been facing economic, social, and security challenges, as well as religious diversity issues resulting from a mass influx of refugees in a short time period. We will take a closer look at how these challenges have impacted and shaped the social and democratic realities in Israel.

Why is Peace in the Middle East So Complicated?

Peace has been a long-held dream for the people of Israel, and while a peace agreement with Egypt and Jordan is in place, peace with Israel’s other neighbors seems almost impossibly complicated. In this session we will look into some of the main factors that complicate Israel’s peace-making efforts.

Jewish Pluralism in Israel
Wednesday, April 10, 7-9 pm

Israel is the home of all Jewish people. What does it mean to be a Jewish state?  In this session we will talk about some of the challenges to Jewish religious pluralism in Israel, specifically as it relates to conversion, marriage laws, and the Western Wall controversy.
