The incredible double life of Moe Berg—an enigmatic sports legend who used his Major League catching career as a cover to spy for the US during WWII—reveals a fascinating period of American history. Veteran filmmaker Aviva Kempner has consistently brought uncommon rigor and humanity to all her award-winning Jewish documentaries on subjects including Hank Greenberg, the partisans of Vilna, Gertrude Berg and “The Goldbergs” TV show, and Julius Rosenwald (“Rosenwald,” BJFF 2016). Her latest profile of a Jewish-American hero bestows recognition on the Princeton grad with a law degree from Columbia who knew 10 languages, including the long dead Sanskrit, and who played on five Major League Baseball teams during his 15-season career, daringly combining sports and spy craft.
