Virtual: Black and Jewish Relationships in the Civil Rights Era and Today

Date: August 6, 2020
Time: 6:00 pm

This program will give us the opportunity to explore the relationship between the
Jewish and Black communities during the Civil Rights Era. The Jewish narrative
of that time is not seen the same by everyone. Nor are those stories grounded in
the reality of what was truly happening. Billy Planer, educator and leader of over
1,000 Civil Rights trips through the south, will help separate the facts from the
commentary of this period. We will explore moments in American history, societal,
Jewish cultural and generational factors that impacted the Jewish community,
Jewish activism and participation, or lack of, on both sides of the Civil Rights
movement. And unpack the impact of that history on the Jewish community and
what is happening in the streets of America today.

The zoom link will be emailed 24 hours prior to the start of the program.
