[VIRTUAL] Origins and Purpose of Counting the Omer with Congregation Bonai Shalom

Date: April 12, 2021
Time: 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Counting of the Omer is mentioned in the Torah, in both Leviticus and Deuteronomy. The text states that it is a commandment to count seven complete weeks from the start of the grain harvest, ending with the festival of Shavuot on the fiftieth day. What was once an agricultural ritual, later became a time to contemplate our spiritual development. We will explore this progression from pagan to Hebraic roots and discuss how we can use these days to raise our awareness and engage in personal development work, using the seven weeks as a call for character development. There are many Omer tools available for support on this; Rabbi Gavriel Goldfeder’s Omer book is highly recommended.
