[IN-PERSON] Why ADL is Protecting Democracy

Date: May 17, 2022
Time: 9:00 am - 10:00 am

As Senior Vice President, Democracy Initiatives, Eileen Hershenov develops thought leadership and strategies for ADL’s fight against authoritarianism and illiberalism. She is also leading ADL’s emerging litigation capacity including its role as co-counsel in a federal lawsuit to hold the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and their leaders and members accountable for planning and carrying out the January 6 attack. The suit ADL filed along with District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine and others seeks to recover damages suffered by the District including the physical, mental, and emotional injuries of Metropolitan Police Department officers.

Eileen joined ADL in 2018 after serving as General Counsel for several of the nation’s leading mission-driven nonprofits. Prior to coming to ADL, she served as General Counsel and head of public policy for the Wikimedia Foundation, which operates Wikipedia, General Counsel at Consumer Reports, and General Counsel at Open Society Foundations. Eileen earned a BA from Yale College and a JD from Yale Law School.
