1:45 pm - SOUTHERN JOURNEY AND THE BOULDER KLEZMER CONSORT

Originally titled  “Unbounded: Breaking the Chains of Modern Day Slavery”, this concert was created by Sheldon Sands and Marta Burton in 2011 as a way of looking at the history of slavery through the lens of the Jewish and African American experiences of oppression; and to bring to light the realities of current day slavery. The Boulder Klezmer Consort (Sheldon Sands, Joe Lukasik & Sandra Wong with guest Nitsan Mesika) offer the passionate sound of Jewish music, while Southern Journey (Chuck Stevenson, Ken Parks, Jeanette Edwards, Anne Zinschlag & Joe Rigley) sings the inspiring, powerful songs from the Black experience of slavery in America.  Together these groups weave an evocative tapestry of profound and uplifting music.
