After the guided museum tour, an engaged discussion will be facilitated by Betty Hart, where attendees will have the opportunity to learn about unconscious bias, self-reflect, and connect with others
Betty Hart is a director, actor, facilitator, speaker, and woman of faith whose mission is to help create space for necessary conversations. Through acting, directing, and facilitating, Betty strives to be a change agent and a force for positivity, creativity, and collaboration.
Betty has worked in facilitation for over 20 years. Subject areas include stress management, grief, laughter as wellness, bias, cultural sensitivity, conflict resolution, suicide prevention, race, trauma sensitivity, clinician-patient communication, team building, resilience, and equity, diversity, and inclusion. Betty has moderated and/or been a guest speaker on panels, discussions, conferences, and community conversations, live and virtual.

Attendees are welcome to stay for the opening of 'The Triumphant Spirit' at the Messinger Gallery Exhibit afterwards. Ignited by an impromptu visit to the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany, Nick Del Calzo spent the next five years creating 145 portraits of Holocaust survivors in 12 states. Some 72 portraits are included in this award-winning book that received a glowing tribute in the Congressional Record and was selected by the American Library Association as one of the "Best Books for Young Adults".
There will be a guided tour of the exhibit, followed by a facilitated conversation. This event is free, and light refreshments will be provided.

What is The Bias Inside Us?
The Bias Inside Us is a Smithsonian traveling exhibition and community-engagement project that will raise awareness about the social science and impact of implicit bias. This exhibition provides an opportunity for people to learn about implicit bias and reflect on their own biases and how they impact their actions. Projects like this can expose us to other ideas and groups outside our own. This exposure can lead to meaningful dialogue, positive change, greater empathy, and increased inclusivity.
