This is a 2-session series to Learn to play Canasta. The first session is on Thursdays, December 4-18, and the 2nd session will be on Thursdays, January 8-22. Our excellent Canasta instructor, Joyce Laiserin, will teach you all the basics of how to play, how to keep score, and how to strategize. Canasta is a fun card game of the rummy family of games, believed to be a variant of 500 Rum played in groups of four.

What is Canasta?

Canasta is a card game typically played by two to four players, using two standard 52-card decks. The objective is to form melds, or sets of seven cards of the same rank, and create a "canasta" by accumulating these melds. Players earn points based on the cards they meld and the canastas they complete, with the game ending when a player reaches a predetermined score.
