Details
Celebrate Colorado’s 150th anniversary as a state, and Kim Grant will discuss Temple Aaron of Trinidad, Colorado, as well as efforts to save other special places in our region. Temple Aaron was constructed in 1889 and is the second-oldest continuously operated synagogue in its original location in the Rocky Mountain West. It is nationally significant as an example of the Exotic Revival architectural style and for how it helps explain the westward migration of European Jews across the United States.
Grant will share how it narrowly escaped the fate of many other small-town synagogues to become a National Historic Landmark, after its nomination to Colorado’s Most Endangered Places. He will also share information about other Endangered Places program sites in Colorado and the progress being made to save them.
Kim Grant is a retired teacher, public administrator, and non-profit development and program specialist whose work has focused on civic projects, downtown revitalization, and historic preservation. He formerly worked for the Denver Public Library, Lower Downtown (LoDo) District, Inc., Historic Denver, Inc., the City of Arvada, and Colorado Preservation, Inc. He lives in Denver with his wife, Mira Zevin.
