Instructor: Dave Johnson
How do we protect wildlife around the planet? Education and local community involvement play critical roles. The Katie Adamson Conservation Fund (KACF), founded by Dave Johnson, is an NGO focused on global conservation initiatives. It rises above traditional wildlife conservation methods by blending innovative technologies that protect endangered species with education and community engagement. KACF’s mission is to intertwine wildlife protection with cultural compassion. In this talk, Dave, a self-described “Animal Nerd”, explains how his past work as a zookeeper and his present passion as an educator and conservationist help implement a range of impactful projects affecting multiple species in more than 32 countries.
About the Instructor:
Dave Johnson spent 25 years at the Denver Zoo working with their elephant, rhino, and hippo populations. He retired in 2023 to lead KACF. Dave has over 40 years of animal experience, including assignments such as working as a bear biologist in Alaska, raising and releasing peregrine falcons in Kentucky, and establishing an extensive conservation movement in Nepal. In 2025, Dave was nominated for the Indianapolis Prize, one of the world’s highest honors in animal conservation.
