Art Exhibition with The Bruces: Bruce Borowsky, Henderson, and Shaffer
Still photography is, well, very still. And very quiet. A good day with my camera can be a slow, silent meditation or a hearty rant. As Rebbe Nachman explains, “With the ‘still small voice’, you can scream without anyone hearing you shouting.” These images were gathered in and around Israel, my home away.
I drop the macro abstractions of Israel; I’m seeking the subtle sparks of life around the corners, in the shadows and sudden clearings. I follow my instincts, biases and vibrations, wondering what's happening deep down and how does it feel? The answers, the images, usually reflect my own memories, real and imagined.
Bruce Borowsky is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker specializing in corporate and documentary videos. Bruce grew up in Miami Beach, and has been behind cameras of all kinds since he was 10 years old, including being the photographer at his own Bar Mitzvah. Bruce has worked professionally in film and video since 1985, when he served as the Chief Photographer for the City of Miami Beach. He received his Master’s degree in Video and Photography from San Francisco State University in 1989. While living in San Francisco, he had the unique opportunity to work as a full-time assistant for renowned adventure photographer Galen Rowell.
Bruce Henderson is a Boulder photographer who started his career as a newspaper photographer and writer in the 1970s after receiving his master’s degree in journalism photography from the University of Wisconsin. He was news editor of the Daily Camera in the 1980s-90s and worked for more than 20 years at the University of Colorado as an associate professor of Journalism and then communications director of the ATLAS Institute. He has won many photography awards both locally and nationally and his works have been featured in numerous area photography exhibits.

Mysterious veiled landscapes. Representational movements that blend abstract into the figurative. Objects emerge, are scratched out and painted over, or left as fragments and glimpses. In this way, works become palimpsests in which composition is arrived at via reverse archaeology of brushstroke.
My approach to art is grounded in college studies of anthropology, archaeology, fine art and creative literature, and informed by a career path that has included interior design, sales and marketing. For the past 10 years, I had largely put my brushes down- to raise two babies and plunge fully into a sales career- during which time I helped my husband launch a successful beverage company.

Art Exhibition with Julie Havel
Julie Havel is a self-taught artist, that expresses her passion and spirit through a continuous flow of inspiration and energy that is her process of artmaking. She starts with a blank canvas, often trying to recreate patterns, shapes, and natural elements using mixed media materials. Her process includes six layers of acrylic paint and an array of textures including sand, handmade papers, textiles, crushed leaves, oil pastels, graphite, pumice, wax, glass beads, and various gel and pouring mediums. Art Exhibition with Carol Ann Wachter
Carol Ann Wachter is a fine artist and fashion designer based in Boulder, Colorado. With a background as an observational oil painter and fashion designer, Carol Ann is now exploring those nuances of depth, light, form, space, and color in a new way: Richly hued abstract collages.
It all starts with color. Carol Ann coats large swaths of paper with colors made from acrylic ink and gouache. Then, she starts cutting. From there, it’s a process of adding and subtracting, disassembling and reassembling, and sometimes, simply stepping away.
She studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has drawn from her painting and sculpture background to create her own line of women's clothing. With a focus on fine fabrics, craftsmanship, and classic forms, Carol Ann has built a reputation as both an accomplished painter and a designer of quality wearable yet elegant silhouettes.

CREATIVE PROCESS
Alice’s work is constructed from an abstract vocabulary inspired by the natural world in which she lives. Through observance of nature's colors, forms and textures, Alice expresses her personal interpretation. The kinesthetic language of her brush or pallete knife strokes and color variations reflects her mood and temperament at the time of painting. The organic process of painting is informed by Alice’s subconscious thoughts and moods and sheds light on her current perspective. For Alice, making art is a journey to understand the external natural world and the many ways in which it is internalized and interpreted.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alice Messinger lives and works currently in Boulder, Colorado. She received her BFA from Parsons School of Design. She has continued her study independently and through workshops with nationally acclaimed artists in New York City, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Colorado. She is represented in many private collections.

Art Exhibition with Norman Koren
Norman Koren’s photography attempts to express the hidden life in intricate, often overlooked details of nature, as well as in old towns and buildings that express the deep individuality of their creators. He is especially attracted to complex abstract designs found in the natural environment, such as lichens on rocks, which evoke realms beyond their subject matter—mysterious planets, magical eggs, and sacred mountains to mention a few.
Norman’s interest in photography started while growing up in Rochester, NY, near the George Eastman House— the great photographic museum that displayed prints of the masters (Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and others) as well as historical and contemporary cameras. Both the artistic and technical displays made a deep impression on him.
During Norman’s 34-year career in magnetic recording technology, which took him to Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, northern and Southern California, and finally to Boulder in 1998, photography was his primary passion. Norman studied Ansel Adams’ basic photo series, attended a number of workshops, became proficient in photographic printing, and even taught a few evening courses. He became interested in digital printing after arriving in Boulder, and in 2001 created a website to share what he learned in the process. This led to the development of a program, Imatest, for analyzing the quality of digital cameras, which keeps him busy to this day.

ARTIST STATEMENT
These abstract paintings, oscillating between chance and intention, are characterized by a process that I interpret as a reckoning of emotions and memories provoked by conscious and subconscious associations between my past and present self. The process is a dynamic dialogue, equally reckless as it is mindful. I am immersed amidst fragments of imagery filled with ideas that are struggling against each other. Spontaneous marks collide with formal elements, likening this to the human experience of living in paradox. I form connections between discord and harmony. Revelations erupt; I plot a route. My voice, continuously searching and unyielding in its capacity to transform again and again.
BIOGRAPHY
Christina Sorace MacKinnon is an internationally exhibited full-time artist known for her vibrant, energetic, and compelling abstract paintings. Her works are honest and palpable, composed of bold and rhythmic gestural movements with diverse mediums in each painting. By controlling the visual space within each canvas, she creates distinct moments charged with movement, respite, and organized chaos. Her large-scale canvases act as a visual narrative of living in paradox with elements that appear to struggle against each other yet coexist harmoniously.
A contemporary abstract painter based in New Jersey, MacKinnon took the road less traveled and decided it wasn’t too late to pursue her dream in her forties. After spending over twenty years in the throws of domesticity raising four children, she bravely set out to honor her artistic aspiration. She began working as a full-time artist in 2013 with reckless abandon. Since then, MacKinnon has hustled and strived to build her career, creating a prolific inventory of work and a significant Instagram following.

Art Exhibition with Leopoldo Cuspinera Madrigal
Mexican artist, architect, and academic; Cuspinera is interested in addressing environmental and social contexts of historical industry, sacred architecture, art, the relationship between humans and landscape, as well as the museumization, conservation, and enhancement of natural and cultural legacy. Art Exhibition with Karen Scharer and Jane Guthridge
Although Karen Scharer was born to artist parents and showed some early interest in drawing and painting, she did not give in to the urge to paint seriously until the mid-1980s. Karen graduated from the University of Montana in 1975 with a degree in Natural Resource Management, a reflection of the love of the outdoors that she learned from her father at an early age. In 1976, a job with the Forest Service took her from Montana to Boise, Idaho and eventually led to a job with IBM. In 1985, Karen married her husband Al, and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was there that she began to paint, with tremendous teaching and support from some remarkable artists, and she quickly began showing and selling her work. In 1991, Karen and Al moved to Colorado. After 17 very educational years, she left IBM in 1997 to devote her time to her art. Today Karen lives and work outside Estes Park, Colorado where her studio is surrounded by thousands of acres of National Forest. From her windows she can see amazing sunrises, and watch beavers and ducks going about their day on the lake below. Karen is truly grateful to be living it this way. Jane Guthridge is a Colorado artist known for her work in a variety of translucent materials exploring the transformative effects of light and nature. Her move from the midwest to the abundant sunlight of Colorado inspires her work.
Ms. Guthridge has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions internationally. Her work was included in “Swept Away, Translucence, Transparence, Transcendence in Contemporary Encaustic” at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in 2013 and the Hunterdon Art Museum in 2014, and “Pattern” at the Attleboro Arts Museum in 2016. Her installation “Reflected Light” was exhibited in 2016 at the Center for Visual Arts in “Colorado Women in Abstraction”, curated by Michael Paglia, art critic and author of several books on abstraction. She was awarded artist residencies at Jentel Artist Residency and RMCAD. She was honored as the “2008 Artist of Recognition” by the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts, and with the generous sponsorship of The Kittredge Foundation she represented the United States in “The International Biennale of Contemporary Art” in Florence, Italy in 2003 and 2005. Her work is contained in the collections of Charles Schwab, Colorado State Bank and Trust, First National Bank of Colorado, Four Seasons, Kaiser Permanente, Raymond James, Texas State University and the U.S. Department of State, among others. Art Exhibition with Stephen Collector
Stephen Collector was born in Virginia in 1951 and has resided in Colorado since 1971. He began a career as a freelance photographer in 1975. His photographs appear in award winning books including Cowboy: The Enduring Myth of the Wild West, 1980 and Law of the Range: Portraits of Old-Time Brand Inspectors, 1992. Those outstanding photographs were exhibited in many shows including the Wyoming State Museum, the Arvada Center and the Dairy Center for the Arts in addition to the publication Persimmon Hill. He has been awarded an artist in residency at Mesa Verde National Park in 2010 and the Frank Waters Foundation in Arroyo Seco, New Mexico, in 2012. He published the books, Journeys to Ancient America, Goddess, and nudes: 1978-2016. Collector freelances for a number of magazines and periodicals, among them: Esquire, Men’s Journal, German Geo, Outside, Wilderness, Fast Company, Forbes, and the High Country News. Art Exhibition with Jodie Roth Cooper and Alli Gerrish
Jodie is an artist and designer, currently working and residing in Denver, Colorado. He earned his MArch from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI, in 2013. Born in London in 1980, he moved to Saratoga Springs, NY, in 1999 to attend Skidmore College and has lived, worked, and traveled in the United States ever since. Jodie’s undergraduate study was in metalsmithing, and 3D modeling.
The scale and scope of his work has increased over the years and his focus is now on sculpture and installation art along with architectural design.
Although a great deal of satisfaction is derived from the design of functional objects and elements Jodie is most excited by blurring the lines of art and design in order to create elements, that not only serve a pedestrian function, but also serve to create memorable experience, whether physical or emotive. Alli Gerrish is a nearly-native Coloradan with roots in New England and fond memories of a decade spent in the gorgeous hills of San Francisco. Her professional life began in advertising with a career in broadcast production and voiceover work, before moving to back to Boulder full time in 2002 to pursue this unexpected new chapter as a painter. Drawing and studying since childhood, she had not previously integrated her art into the commercial world but feels it has been a tremendous gift and a way to take the adversity in life and transform it into a bounty of opportunity.
Her work is about bringing the subconscious mind into the unplanned and spontaneous practice of action painting. She utilizes pure abstraction as well as calligraphic or figural representations to express the duality ever-present in this world.
Alli Gerrish has studied at the Academy of Art San Francisco, the Classical Art Academy, Naropa University, The Arts Student League of Denver as well as Anderson Ranch Arts Center. Art Exhibition with Will Day
Born in New York City, Will Day lives and works in Boulder, Colorado. He has traveled extensively throughout the world and the experiences of his journeys have inspired him as a person and an artist. Primarily self-taught, his interest in painting intensified during his travels throughout North Africa, South America, and Europe. His fine art training has consisted of studies in Paris, France and Dublin, Ireland.
Will has an inherent ability to create bold, abstract images on canvas – the majority being large-scale in format. His art balances texture, color and layering into cohesive and appealing images. He works with his canvasses on the floor so that he can rotate and apply materials from different vantage points. Will has a disciplined approach to each painting with the goal of producing original works that are spontaneous and resplendent. “While all the paintings are abstract, I try to create numerous shapes and forms that are visible. Several of the paintings depict forms of nature, such as flowers or landscapes,” he explains. “My ultimate goal is to fuse three or four colors in each painting to project a strong, motivating energy to the viewer.” To learn more about Will's work, click HERE.

Ian McLaughlin was born 1979 in Winfield, Illinois, and grew up in Chicago. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting/Drawing from the Kansas City Art Institute, 2002. He apprenticed with one of Chicago’s premiere Architectural Arts and Design studios and studied visual arts at the Chicago Academy for the Arts.
Over the years, he’s been lucky enough to work with amazing people, projects, and institutions in the visual arts world, including Marc Chagall’s “Four Seasons” restoration project, The Chicago Cultural Center’s Tiffany stained glass dome restoration project, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, and Northwestern University’s Block Museum of Art. He has shown in Chicago, Kansas City, Detroit, and is exhibited regularly in Denver. His work lives in a number of permanent collections in the Denver area. He lives and works in Boulder, Colorado. I create from personal experience, calling on the most powerful moments I have witnessed regarding humans and interaction. I create from the heart. Early in life I had a penchant for discovering how things worked and were put together. I rarely utilized the instructions that were included with models and toys. I have always been a visual learner and enjoyed figuring out how things are made. With both my parents being scientists, I approach situations with the idea of discovery. Kelton is currently represented by the Michael Warren Contemporary.

Sara Sanderson is an oil painter based in Boulder, Colorado. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from CU Boulder and Master of Fine Arts from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Sara has shown her work both nationally and internationally since 2001. For the past few years, her work had focused on the landscape of Colorado including the floods of 2013. Sara has a passion for color, atmosphere and light which can be seen in each of her works. Her paintings act as a record of time in a specific season, event, or moment. Art Exhibition with Michelle Courier and Kelly McCormick
Michelle Courier began painting land, sky and tree-scapes, but has since been exploring painting water and the Western United States. Courier loves the challenge these scapes provide.“The movement between water, earth, and sky fascinates me. I want to make the viewer feel as if they could step into the water, actually almost be able to smell the trees.” Courier now has relocated from her home state of Michigan to Denver, Colorado full time, where she enjoys hiking and searching for more to create. Born and raised in Michigan, Kelly McCormick received his BFA from the University of Michigan and his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He has been living in New York City since 1999 and currently resides in Brooklyn. McCormick states, "In this series, 
the paintings suggest a dialogue between distortion of scale and man versus nature. My process begins with exploring the world around me. I seek out interesting compositions through photography that will carry over into my paintings. Water, glass or metal are identifiable images on their own, however, I seek the unique elements within. This process makes something ordinary seem extraordinary. For example, an aerial photo may look like graffiti, or crushed metal may look like an abstraction. Miguel has over 20 years of experience as a creative professional and entrepreneur. He has been brought in to manage people, budgets, and productions, and to provide leadership and inspiration in a variety of industries. He has been both an art director and a construction coordinator for award winning feature films. He has been a stage manager for the Experience Music Project, steel fabricator and heavy equipment team lead for the nations largest Flower and Garden Show, and has had exhibits of his art across the US and in Europe. Currently Miguel is working with a startup company, shooting commercial and editorial photography up and down the west coast. His public art and sculpture career is on a healthy trajectory with several public commissions in the works and is represented in Denver, Santa Fe, LA, Seattle, Palm Springs and Camano Island. As a public artist, Miguel has worked with the cities of Seattle, Bellevue, Palm Springs, Edmonds, and Auburn as well as the international exhibition at Peace Arch Park.

Art Exhibit with Maryanne Quinn
Maryanne Quinn is a Boulder-based textile artist whose hand-felted paintings exploit a sense of childhood wonder. Bringing textile to life through bold colors and pattern, Quinn builds imagined landscapes and expressive compositions from layers of naturally-dyed Merino wool cut, shaped and then laboriously felted. Using her hands, she manipulates and massages the fibers, fusing the individual layers into tight units of her own musing.
In a recent body of work, a pom-pom winter hat recalls childhood memories, the colors and material viscerally bringing her back to experiences growing up. Reimagining this nostalgic detail of her own past, the work captures and takes hold of a whimsical sensibility that exists in us all, a longing to somehow return to a simpler time.
Imbued with a sense of play and experimentation, Quinn finds inspiration in the natural world, delights in details of everyday life and potency of nostalgia. Floral imagery, geometric shapes and everyday objects are playfully reinterpreted in bright colors and arranged into lively compositions reminiscent of Henri Matisse. Their simplified nature rife with symbolic potency. Defined by decisive lines and clean edges, the visual language and aesthetic organization of the work is undoubtedly informed by many years working as a professional graphic designer. Unlike the slick and glossy world of graphic design, these works are soft and tactile.
Maryanne has partnerships with select retailers across the country and also sells directly to collectors, interior designers, and art consultants.
Art Exhibit with Angela Beloian and Cara Enteles
Angela Beloian has exhibited her work in museums, galleries and art centers throughout the United States. Solo exhibits include Denver International Airport (2017, 2013), Denver Performing Arts Center (2010), Longmont Museum (2013), Riverside Art Museum (2011), Art League Houston (2009), Lawndale Art Center (2005) and Walker Fine Art (2014, 2012, 2011, 2009). Her work has appeared on the cover of Studio Visit Magazine (2014) and been reviewed in publications including Art Ltd (2014), Painted Sky: 106 Artists of the Rocky Mountain West (2015), and Westword where she was featured as a Colorado Creative (2019) and received a Best of Denver Award (2014). She is represented by Walker Fine Art in Denver.
Cara Enteles is best known for her nature, landscape paintings on Aluminum and Plexiglas panels. “My work is the result of my fascination and study of the natural world.” She has developed a unique technique that combines silkscreen printing and oil painting on these industrial substrates. The aluminum has a reflective ground that changes with the light, mimicking the natural world. The acrylic is built up in transparent layers painting on multiple sides to create great depth. Enteles is a 20 year resident of the Upper Delaware Valley which is the source of inspiration for her work. Underlying these seemingly beautiful paintings, Enteles infuses her thoughts on environmental issues. “In my mind the trees and plants of the paintings represent nature as a being. They exude power that man continually tries to manipulate. I aim to be an advocate for nature.”
Enteles's work is exhibited nationwide and in Europe. The Artist is featured in many Public Collections including Microsoft, The Norwegian Cruise Line, Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and as well as numerous private collections. She is currently working on a large public commission for the MTA Arts and Design. Awards include Guest Artist at Singinawa Tiger Preserve, Kanha, India, 2011, inclusion in the Art in Embassies program, a Fellowship to the Julia & David White Artist's Colony, 2005, a studio at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts 2004-2008, and a grant from the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance Fellowship for the Visual Arts, 2002.
Her work has been shown at Wave Hill, The Hudson Valley Contemporary Art Center, The Long Island Museum and The Islip Art Museum. She earned her BFA from Parsons School of Design and has also studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. She is represented by Amy Simon Fine Art in Connecticut, Sara Nightingale Gallery in New York and Walker Fine Art in Denver. In the UK and Europe she is represented by Strange Tracey Gallery.
