Understanding the BRCA Gene: A Women’s Health Night

By Claudia Metsch

Join the Women of the J at the Boulder JCC on Monday, October 28, from 6 to 8:30 pm for a night of Health Education about the BRCA gene. Gynecologic oncologist Dr. Christine Walsh of CU Anschutz will present the science behind the gene and why everyone must know their status.

Health education for women is crucial to cancer prevention. Every person has a BRCA gene, but sometimes mutations prevent genes from doing the job correctly. We will discuss the barriers to testing and hear personal stories on how the test can save a life. Our speakers will address issues concerning life insurance, mental health support, and what happens next. Everyone who qualifies is eligible for a free screening test.

Women of the J present the program in partnership with Boulder Hadassah and Jewish Cancer Prevention. Women of the J Programs are Underwritten in Honor of Marc H. Monheimer by the Mervyn L. Brenner Foundation.
