An evening of insight, support, and practical tools for parents of young children
In challenging times, many parents wonder how — or if — to talk to their children about the pain and complexity in the world around us. Raising Resilience is a supportive, interactive program designed to help parents begin brave, age-appropriate conversations with their kids about difficult topics — from trauma and loss to conflict and injustice — without overwhelming or shutting them down.
Led by Sam Pugh, a trusted local preschool trauma and child psychologist, this evening will provide tools for understanding how children at different developmental stages process hard truths. Together, we’ll explore how to co-regulate with young children, how to respond to their big emotions with confidence and care, and how ancestral patterns of healing and resilience can inform our own parenting choices.
We'll also hear from Jon Wood, a Jewish educator and recent participant in an immersive educational experience in Israel, who will share how parents can model meaning-making and hope even in the face of grief and fear.
Evening highlights include:
- Understanding children’s emotional development and what’s appropriate to share when
- Tools for co-regulation and emotional resilience from clinical practice
- Drawing strength from ancestral narratives of healing and repair
- How to approach topics like antisemitism, war, and community violence with honesty and compassion
- A Q&A session based on real, pre-submitted parent questions
- Snacks and refreshments will be provided, along with free childcare for children ages 4–8.
- Parents who prefer to use their own babysitter can request a discount code to help cover the cost.
- Whether you’re feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or just want to feel more equipped, this evening is here to support you in raising resilient, emotionally grounded children.
