Israeli dance is both cultural and recreational, combining the joy of contemporary Israeli dance and world music in an exuberant and uplifting group dance experience - it has evolved from the simple, early dances you may have seen. The Boulder JCC and Boulder Israeli Dance is offering a new class series starting this fall in Modern Israeli Dance.
In this class, you’ll learn the basics of Israeli circle and line dances – both classic and new – in a fun and friendly atmosphere geared to beginners. New material is offered in each class series – the class is open to everyone ages 15 and older, and no dance experience is needed.
Are you someone who has wonderful memories of Israeli folk dance, perhaps from weddings or good old summer camp? Have you ever wished there was a way to dance again, and would like to find out what’s going on with Israeli dancing today? Or maybe you’ve hardly ever danced before, but just feel drawn to the idea, and don’t know where to start.
Here are what some former attendees of Modern Israeli Dance have to say about taking class with Gillian at the Boulder JCC:
“When I moved to the Boulder area two years ago, I was looking for community through the JCC and found the introductory Israeli dance class. I enjoyed it so much that I started attending Boulder Israeli Dance Sunday nights at the Avalon and have been there ever since!”
“I had never learned more than the hora and a few easy follow-along dances at weddings and bar mitzvahs. Taking the class through the JCC opened me up to the world of contemporary Israeli dance.”
“Learning Israeli dances feels like discovering an accessible and challenging new hobby with new and old friends. The beautiful music, expressive dances, and the fun of learning have brought joy and exercise into my week, gathering with a fun group of people.”
The joy of personal expression and cultural heritage unite in Israeli dance, making taking Modern Israeli Dance with Gillian a joyful experience. The 6-week class will start on Wednesday, August 21st from 6 - 7:30 pm at the Boulder JCC. For more information and to register, refer to the Boulder JCC website.
