Join Early Learning & Parenting at the Boulder JCC for Little Yogis, a class tailor-made for busy toddlers and their caregivers. Tailored for kids ages 1.5-3.5, this class utilizes songs, creative movement, stories, and mindful breathing to introduce the littlest practitioners to yoga. Free exploration at the end of class allows for unstructured play and for kids and caregivers to connect and build a supportive community.
Why do yoga with your toddler? Here are just a few of the benefits:
Language development
Yoga for toddlers exposes children to language through song and words with actions.
Improved body awareness
Yoga class encourages children to become aware of body positions and the names of body parts. Body awareness helps with self-regulation, self-monitoring, and learning to navigate the world physically.
Strengthens and tones muscles for movement
Crawling, holding Downward Dog, trying to jump—these all lead to stronger muscles for life. Practicing yoga encourages weight bearing on the hands, which builds up the arms and shoulders muscles and develops core strength. Core strength supports proper lung function, digestion, and elimination and is a crucial building block of future motor skills.
Gross motor skills
Little ones stomp, jump, spin, cross the midline, balance on one foot, transfer weight between the feet, pass an object from hand to hand, clap, pat the floor, and practice moving their bodies in many ways.
Toddlers love it!
Yoga should be fun for everyone. Young children learn best through play, and yoga for toddlers is all play.
You can sign up for Little Yogis with Instructor Stacey Martin from November 5 to December 3 (Skipping November 26) from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Please register for Little Yogis on the Boulder JCC website.
