Accomplished designer and craftsman Rob Levy will showcase a new body of work at the Messinger Art Gallery. This unique collection includes innovative sculptures, art furniture, and upholstered pieces that have never been displayed.
Rob's passion for Art Furniture and Design began over 40 years ago when, as a teenager, he apprenticed in his father's cabinet-making business. He studied under several of Northeast's top furniture artists, eventually earning a BFA in Furniture Design and Fine Woodworking from the University of Massachusetts.
In the early 1990s, Rob represented 20 of the country's top Art Furniture craftsmen and women while working at the prestigious Peter Joseph Gallery in New York City. Rob later founded Hudson River Woodworks, a high-end custom woodworking company in New York that designed and built one-of-a-kind custom Art Furniture pieces, built-in furniture, and related custom woodwork.
Rob's work has been featured as the cover story of two industry magazines, Woodshop News and the Cabinet Makers Association. He has also won two industry design awards and shown his work at various art shows.
In addition to maintaining his design and building art studio, Rob lends his deep expertise locally at Dawson School. Rob has developed and inspired a teaching program that has elevated the typical woodworking curriculum. His courses include extensive study of design and artists, incorporating a mindfulness approach and core life lessons for students to use as a toolbox for life.
A devoted and long-term student of personal development, Rob also practices as an individual and professional life coach.
Inspired by the Rocky Mountains and seeking a lifestyle change, Rob and his wife, Suzanne, relocated to Boulder, Colorado, in 2011 with their two children, Julia and Jake.
Sara is a landscape painter based in Boulder, Colorado. She utilizes her keen observational skills and artistic vision to create expressive and painterly works. Her paintings reflect the organic beauty surrounding her, highlighting the intricate interplay between color, design, and scale in nature. Sara's subjects often revolve around the complicated forms of flora and fauna, captured in the style of disrupted realism. Through the brevity of brushwork, she captures the essence of her subject, conveying a sense of tranquility and awe in the face of the natural world. Sara's works invite viewers to explore the wonders of nature with a renewed appreciation for its beauty and complexity.
