God Bless the Pill: Book Talk with Author Samira Mehta
When we think about the invention of the birth control pill in 1960, we usually picture the rise of the feminist movement, women’s liberation, and the dawn of the sexual revolution. But there is a hidden history to contraception in America, one where religious leaders were some of its most fierce champions.
On Monday, July 20, at 7 PM, our community has a unique opportunity to dive into this fascinating history. The Boulder JCC, in partnership with Congregation Har HaShem, Boulder Hadassah, and the Women of Har HaShem, will host Samira K. Mehta in conversation with Rabbi Ruth Gelfarb for an in-depth discussion of Mehta’s compelling new book, God Bless the Pill.
Standing Together: Community Coffee and Spaces for Connection
In light of recent challenges and painful events within our community, our hearts go out to the students and families navigating trauma, as well as to everyone feeling vulnerable, sad, or angry right now. Times like these remind us how deeply interconnected we are, and how vital it is to look out for one another. Please know this: You are not alone. We are here for you, and we stand united. To provide a dedicated space for connection, healing, and mutual support, you are warmly invited to join us for an informal, drop-in Community Coffee.
Our primary focus right now is ensuring that every parent, teenager, and child feels supported and valued. Whether you want to process recent events, ask questions, or simply sit in community with others, our doors are wide open. The first session will take place on Friday, June 26, followed by a second session on Tuesday, June 30. Both gatherings are informal, drop-in style, and open to all community members seeking comfort and connection. Representatives from local Jewish community organizations will also be present to offer guidance, resources, and a supportive ear.
